Cancún: General Information

Since the beginning of its operation with positive growth in its tourism indicators, the Mexican government decided to create this master-planned resort, for the beauty of its beaches, the extent and biodiversity of the reefs, islands, lagoons, cenotes, estuaries and the wide variety of flora and fauna, this destination has.

The quality of the infrastructure and equipment, the concurrence of the necessary investments and a Master Development Plan were the ingredients that shaped this successful destination.

Located on the northeast coast of Quintana Roo in Eastern Mexico, the first FONATUR Integrally Planned Center began operations in 1974 and in just 39 years has become a modern planned city that is now the most renowned Mexican resort worldwide, with varied infrastructure of high quality services for watersports, diving in unparalleled scenery, fishing and extreme sports; it also has the second largest coral reef in the world.

For golf enthusiasts, Cancun offers professional fields with panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea and the Nichupte lagoon and to important archaeological sites such as Tulum, Chichen Itza and Uxmal.

It´s areas, distributed in a space of over 23 km, are developed in hotels, the convention center, the international airport, commercial and residential areas, a golf course, a network of roads, plants of wastewater treatment, power lines, telephone and water.

For all that Cancun was consolidated as one of the major cities of the country with influence throughout the Southeast. (The great dynamic of urban development and tourism represents a challenge to balance the quality of life and opportunities for its residents).
